Description
This superb reproduction of an Italian-type rondel dagger corresponds to a piece from the first quarter of the 16th century. Its long, slender, triangular-section blade is designed to slip between the plates of an opponent’s armor. While the rondel guard protects the hand, the rondel pommel allows the fighter to apply strong pressure with the other hand, in order to pierce gambesons and chain mail and reach vital organs. The richness of its decoration testifies both to the armorer’s skill and to the rank of its owner. The scabbard features two leather laces allowing the weapon to be secured to the wearer’s clothing.
Hardened steel blade, twisted wooden grip, iron and brass rondels. Leather scabbard with brass mounts. Overall length: 37 cm, including a 25.5 cm blade. Weight: 320 g.
