Description
We know this 14th-century knight and his equipment thanks to his monumental brass tombstone in St John the Baptist’s Church in Pebmarsh (Essex, England), undoubtedly one of the finest surviving examples depicting a lord in full armor. Finely engraved, it provides a remarkably detailed picture of the various pieces of equipment that made up his panoply, including this beautiful sword of rare elegance, enhanced by its richly decorated scabbard and belt.
Total sword length: 117 cm, including a 91 cm blade. Total weight: 1.25 kg. Blade made of C60 carbon steel. Brass pommel and steel guard. Wooden scabbard covered in leather and decorated with gold-coloured patterns. The belt is attached to the scabbard and adorned with brass fittings.
