Description
The military belt (cingulum) is a key piece of Roman soldiers’ equipment, as it symbolizes their membership in the army. As such, even when dressed in civilian clothing, soldiers continue to wear it with pride. Richly decorated with metal plates and fitted with studded straps, the cingulum holds the dagger (pugio) on the left-hand side, secured by two buttons attached to its characteristic fittings.
This reproduction, crafted from burgundy leather, highlights the decorative plates and studs of the cingulum, which are made of tinned brass. The inner surfaces of the belt and hanging straps are lined with leather. This model corresponds to the 1st century AD.
