Description
The spangenhelm is a helmet created during Antiquity, adopted by the Roman army from the third century, and which remained in use throughout the Early Middle Ages in various forms. It is characterised by an assembly of plates joined together by riveting.
This model with a mail neck guard is notably depicted on the Arch of Galerius in Thessaloniki, dated to the fourth century.
Iron helmet, galvanised iron neck guard. Upper interior lining in leather (wolf). The inside of the cheek guards needs to be fitted. Interior length 21 cm, width 18 cm. Total weight 2.2 kg.
