AM904M Gambeson 14th-15th cent M

Description

During the 14th century, le gambeson becomes even shorter following the adoption of plate armor, which features complex articulations. It mainly serves to support the cuirass that protects the fighter’s torso. The junctions with the limbs are then covered by additional pieces: pauldrons and tassets reinforced with sections of mail. The shape of the shoulder seams is designed to improve the gambeson’s flexibility and ease movement. This is also why there are openings under the arms. The ends of the sleeves are left open to allow the wrist width to be adjusted. It fastens with lacing, with the eyelets reinforced with leather.

Cotton fabric, polyester padding (to reduce weight and increase flexibility). Chest circumference: 100 cm.
