Description
In the 13th century, the gambeson became somewhat shorter to match the shape of mail hauberks. Made of several layers of textile intended to cushion impacts and to slow any weapons that managed to penetrate the armor, it had the drawback of restricting the fighter’s mobility, especially in the shoulders and arms. The cut of this example improves the situation, with a clever construction over the upper body and sleeves made with a slight bend to facilitate movement. It is two-toned and fastens with fabric buttons, indicating a model worn by a warrior of some standing.
Cotton fabric, polyester padding (to reduce weight and increase flexibility). Chest circumference: 110 cm; sleeve length: 63 cm; overall length: 89 cm.
