AC151 - Newstead lorica segmentata

Description

The lorica segmentata appears during Augustus's reign, and some were found on the Kakriese battle site. This one is a 2d-3d century armor, made after a scottish founding, in Newstead. The armor is quite different from the 1st century ones : all the hooks and straps have been replaced by pins, probably to avoid maintenance issues.

Our knowledge of this kind of late Lorica Segmentata was improved by the Carlisle foudning, which helped to complete our reproduction. Iron plates 1,3mm thick with brass brackets, rivetted on leather straps. Weigth 9,5kg. Up to 100cm chest perimeter
