Republican helmets


HL107 - Etrusco corinthian helmet , 6th/4th centuries BC - 750€ - Pictures
New version

The shape of the etrusco-cointhian helmets - also called apulo-corinthian - gets back to the greek corinthian helmets. It is weared back on the head, and the eyes are only decorative. The cheekguards are in fact used as a kind of peak. Unlike the ones pictured on most books, none was found with cheekguards.

Made in the EEC, brass, crest made of genuine horsehair and wood.

This kind of helmet was initially used by celtic warriors, and came in use in the roman army during the IVth century BC. It was mass produced at the time.

- Coolus Buggenum - 210€ - Pictures

Copy of one of the first buggenum typ, found in Xanten, Germany. Its neckguard points a piece of the end of the first century BC. The crest holder is the one to be seen on the original piece.

Copy of an helmet found in Schaan, Lichtenstein. Used during the first quarter of the first century AD. This piece was found without crest holder.

Copy of a piece found in London, probably during the invasion under Claudius (43 AD). The cheekguards belongs to another helmet, to be seen in the british museum.

The original item belonged to a legionnary of the IVth Macedonica, and was found in Drusenheim, Nord of the France. Third quarter of the first century.

First one of the gallic series, because they wrer made after the gallic helmets of the late Tene.

Found in Hollanfd, Noviomagus, this helmet goes back to the end of the Ist century BC.

New version

Made aftre a piece found in Bulgaria, to be seen in New York, it is the oldest face helmet found (Kalkriese typ). It is an imperial gallic kind, with a face.

Made after an original found in Besancon, in the substructions of the amphitheater. Crests may be used with this one.

HL113 - Impérial-Gallic C - 180€ - Pictures

Made after an helmet found in yougoslavia, in the river Kupa.

The eyesbrows - use to strengthen the bowl of the helmet - are more complex. Brass edges appear, to avoid corrosion during holding. At the top, a brass piece is used to fix a crest holder.

Helmets with crest


This helmet found in Weisenau, Germany, is the most well known roman helmet. You will notice a short neckguard, and embossed designs strengthen the cheekguards, bowl, and back.

This helmet may be equipped with a crest.

Helmets with crest

This helmet is the most favoured bey reenactment groups. Middle of the first century, found in Augsburg, Germany. The main difference between H and G helmets is the shape of the neckguard, and the eyebrows on the bowl.

Thsi one of the first hlemet looking like imperial gallic ones, but made of brass. Found in Aquicum, in Hungary, it has an original crest holding device. Second part of the Ist century.

HL126 - Auxiliary infantry B - 210€

Very often used bye auxiliaries in the reenactment groups, thsi helmet is a kind of mix between collus and Imperial Gallic. Middle of the Ist century.

HL166 - Cavalry helmet, Weiler type - 299€ - Pictures

This kind of helmet, heavily embossed and figuring the hair of the wearer, appears during the first century. Named after the location where the first one was found. this one is made after one found in Gloucester, england.

HL159 - Ribchester's face helmet - 299€ - Pictures

These fully decorated helmets, with a mask figuring the face of the soldier, were used by cavalrymen, but maybe by standart bearers, too. They go back to the second half of the Ist century.

Made of iron with brass brackets figuring temples and eagles, this helmet belongs to the italic tradition, easy to distingate from the gallic ones, for they have no eyebrows. Second half of the first century AD.

HL138 - Impérial-Italic D, Krefeld kind - 220€ - Pictures
New helmet

This helmet was found in the german town of Krefeld. It is clearly a variant of the imperial italic D. The tempel on the cheekguard is different, and the two eagles have been replaced by eyes.

HL128 - Impérial-Italic G - 200€ - Pictures

Decorated with crescents, the helmet was found in Hebron, Israël. The two crossed iron pieces are an improvment of the beginning of the second century, intendend to reinforce the bowl, probably following Trajanus dacian wars. This helmet was dated around 130 AD.

HL160 - Auxiliary archer - 160€ - Pictures

This piece is made after the archers to be seen on Trajanus' column in Roma. The scales are made of brass, stitched on a leather neckguard.

IId and IIId century helmets


HL151 - Auxiliary E - 190€ - Pictures

Initially identified as an auxiliay cavalry helmet, this helmet is now known fo having been used by infantry units. It shows a totally new design, to be used untill the late IIId century.

HL151B - Auxiliairy E, brass - 230€

another one, but made of brass. It was found in Freibourg, Germany, but was destroyed during WWII.

HL152 - Niedermörmter brass - 250€ - Pictures

This helmet is the last of the imperial italic tradition. With a very wide neckguard, this helmet was in use at the end of the IId century, and during the first half of the IIID.

Made of iron with brass brackets, this is the most known version of the Niedermörmeter types. The original belongs to a private collection.

Very similar to the Auxiliary E, but made of brass, this helmet shows the typical cross reinforcments of the late IId / IIId century.

This is another example of roman cavalry helmet of the IIID century. Found in the auxiliary cavalry fort of Buch, on the Rhaetian limes. the original piece was not finished when lost. This one have been completed.

IVth et Vth centuries

.HL167 - Deurne helmet, early IVth century - 299€ - Pictures

Found in Holland and to be seen in the Rijksmuseum van Oudheden, this silver plated and gilded helmet certinaly belonged to a high ranking cavalry officer. found with a coin, it is dated 319 AD. Our copy is made of iron, with embossed brass plates. Inner leather padding.


HL168 - "Augst" helmet - 190€ - Pictures

These helmets, much more simpler than the ones in use before, were mass produced by the fabricae, founded by Diocletian at the end of the IIId century. Made of two hlves, rivetted together
. Found in Augst, Switzerland.

HL164 - "Intercisa" helmet - 190€

Same helmet than the Augst type, but with another kind of decoration (two eyes on the front of the bowl). Found in Intercisa, Hungary

HL163 - "Intercisa" crested helmet - 230€ - Pictures

This Intercisa helmet is equipped with a crest of iron, and was probably used by an officer.

HL161 - "Burgh Castle" Helmet - 200€ - Pictures

Also made in the Fabricaes, this helmet belongs to the heavy kind of mass produced helmets. Clearly made after oriental sassanid helmets, with a noseguard, with irons plates protecting the joinf between cheekguard and bowl, the holes for the ears indicate an infantry model. Found in Burgh Castle, England.

HL162 - "Concesti" helmet - 200€ - Pictures

Very similar to the Burgh Castle helmet, this piece has no holes for the ears.

HL169 - "Berkasovo" Helmet - 299€ - Pictures

This piece, found in Berkasovo, has the same oriental shape than most heavy helmets. Made of iron, it is plated with embossed brass decorations, and semi precious jewels. Originally made of gilded silver the plates of our copy are made of brass, and the jewel of glas. It belonged to a high ranking officer.

HL219 - Spangenhelm - IVth Vth centuries - 140€ -

This oriental style and conical helmet appears during the late IIId century, even if some pieces existed during the IId century. This helmet was adopted by all germanic tribes, too.

Copy made after a pice found in a grave in Vendel, Germany. Similar helmets were found in Egypt.
